1941
Jimmy Johnson’s Playland comes to San Antonio and holds its grand opening in its first location at 223 N. St. Mary’s Street.
1979
The National Basketball Association approves the 3-point shot for the upcoming season. Spurs coach Doug Moe says, “It’s the greatest thing that could happen. The three-point field goal will add a lot of excitement to the game. To have the potential to use it can really help but if you overuse it, you can hurt yourself.”

Interesting address for Playland. It was probably a small operation, I guess. I know the next year (1942) Jimmy Johnson opened Playland at 3900 N. St. Mary’s, opposite the Sunken Garden near the Zoo but didn’t stay there long as it was controversial and then of course the following year (1943) opened the one most of us remember at Broadway and N. Alamo.
