1873
Renovations to San Fernando are completed and the cathedral is reopened.  However, the second tower would not be finished until 1902.

1918 – World War I
The first “bell girls” in the hotels of the Southwest took up their work yesterday at noon in the Gunter Hotel.  Women elevator operators, telephone operators, cashiers, waitresses and clerks have been employed for some time.  The girls are required to act as pages in the place of bell boys and show guests to their rooms.  They wear a neat uniform of light tan with brown braid and gilt buttons.

1946
The first of a fleet of 50 air-conditioned buses was received today and will go into service on some of’ the heavier traffic routes this week, according to Laurence Wingerter, vice-president and general manager of the Transit company.
