September 27 in San Antonio history…

1835
Lt.  Francisco de Castañeda and 100 Mexican dragoons leave San Antonio to retrieve a cannon from Gonzales.  The cannon had been given to the settlers in 1831 for protection from the Indians.  The citizens refuse to give up the cannon and Castaneda, outmanned and outgunned, withdraws to San Antonio.

1868
The cornerstone of the newly renovated San Fernando Cathedral is laid.

1918
A pulmotor of the most modern type has been installed at the Central Fire Station.  “It is for the benefit of the public,” said Fire Chief Goetz this morning.  “In an emergency, all that is necessary is to ring the central fire station and I will respond just the same as if in an alarm of fire.  If but one life is saved, the pulmotor will have more than justified the price of the apparatus.”
