The first polo game is held in San Antonio is held between the Reds and the Blues in San Pedro Park. This was only eleven years after polo was first played in England.
1917- World War I
An effort to “unionize” the construction of the army cantonments at Camp Wilson and, on the part of some union men, to secure double time for Sunday work, if such should become necessary to complete the work on time, is being made, it is reported by agents of the unions. Two conferences are said to have been held with representatives of the Stone & Webster Company, but the situation has not been adjusted.
San Antonio resident Karen Hantze Susman (right) wins the women’s singles title at Wimbledon, defeating Vera Sukova of Czechoslovakia in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. She also wins the women’s doubles title with her partner, Billie Jean Moffitt (later King).
