June 6 in San Antonio history…

1916
A fireproof building, expected to be one of the most handsome clubs in the South, will be erected by the San Antonio Country Club to replace its previous structure claimed by fire.

1932
Future astronaut, David Scott (right), is the first boy born to an officer stationed at Randolph AFB and is given Randolph as a middle name.

1951
A C-97 Stratofreighter from Kelly Air Force Base crashes near Somerset and Palo Alto roads shortly after takeoff, killing all aboard.  The crash also injures a few people working at the nearby Grey Eagle Tavern and Gauna Bros. Service Station.  This was only the second crash of a C-97 since they began flying in 1944.

  1. Interesting about the C-97 Stratofreighter from Kelly Air Force Base that crashes.
    Just a heads-up that on June 26, 1970, a Navy F9 trainer jet crashes into westside neighborhood.
