1731
The first Canary Islanders arrive in San Antonio.  Their legacy lives on today in Main Plaza downtown, also called Plaza de las Islas.

1990
First Gibraltar Savings Bank, an institution formed from five insolvent savings and loans, aquires the assets of San Antonio Savings.  The ultimate cost to taxpayers to cover losses at the troubled association is estimated at $890 million.

2002
John Jay’s Chris Ross hits a half-court shot as time expires to win the 5A state championship, 54-53, over heavily favored Dallas Kimball high school.  The three points are his only points of the game and the play is nominated for an ESPY award.
