February 29 in San Antonio history…
World War I – 1916
A San Antonio firm has been asked to produce war munitions for Europe. The material wanted is for forgings for shrapnel and high explosive shells. E. A. Holmgreen, President of Alamo Iron Works, said, “This is the third request of the kind that we have received. We will not do the work because we are working to capacity on other things – materials demanded by Texas folk instead of something needed by Europe.”
Missions Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, and Espada are secularized.
Cornerstone of First Presbyterian Church laid with much religious ceremony at Flores and Houston Streets.
