January 2 in San Antonio history…

1911
At about 4:30 today, ground was broken for the new Prospect Hill Baptist Church.  J. L. Kerr, chairman of the building committee, pitched the first shovel of dirt.  He was followed by Rev. T. V. Neal, pastor of the church, and by all others present, so that all had a hand in the first work.  Work on the church will begin immediately and it will be completed in about eight months.  The approximate cost is $25,000.

1931
Filmland’s latest feminine sensation can now be seen at the Aztec. She is Jean Harlow, former Chicago society girl, who makes her screen debut in “Hell’s Angels,” the $4,000,000 Howard Hughes air spectacle.

1985
The Alamo City receives 2.4 inches of snow for the first time since January 1982 and the highest total since 3.1 inches on Feb. 22, 1966.
