Community Invited to Celebrate Native American Heritage Month
Join the San Antonio Public Library in the celebration of Native American Heritage Month; a time to recognize the achievements and significant contributions of the Native American community.
On Saturday, November 7, the Library will host Dr. Mario Garza from the Indigenous Cultures Institute from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Central Library Auditorium, 600 Soledad St., 78205. Dr. Garza will present on the White Shaman Panel- an ancient rock panel that depicts the Coahuiltecan creation story. The rock, located near Comstock, Texas, depicts the birth of the sun, the journey to the underworld and the First People who emerged upon Mother Earth. Dr. Garza will discuss how geographic information technology identifies Barton Springs, Comal Springs, the San Antonio River headwaters and the San Marcos springs are sacred to his ancestors.
