September 9 in San Antonio history…

World War I – 1915
Twenty people are reported killed and eighty-six injured from bombs dropped in a zeppelin air raid over London last night.  Also, Secretary Lansing has cancelled the passport of James F. J. Archibald. the American correspondent, upon whom British secret service men found communications from Dr. Constantin Dumba, the Austro-Hungarian ambassador, to his foreign office on the subject of fomenting strikes in American munitions plants.

The San Antonio Light‘s report totally understates the effect of the massive hurricane damage to Galveston. The Daily Express gets closer but with telegraph and telephone lines down, it’s difficult to ascertain the full extent of the destruction.

Actor Henry Thomas (“E.T.”, “Raggedy Man”) is born in San Antonio.

KMOL-TV restores their call letters to WOAI-TV, the original call letters from 1949 to 1975.
