World War I – 1915
The British Expeditionary Forces have been fitted with a new defense against gas attacks called a “Hypo Helmet.” It is simply a khaki-colored flannel bag soaked in hypo solution (glycerin and sodium thiosulphate) to protect against chlorine. The soldier places it over his head and tucks the bottom into his tunic. The wearer breathes through the material making up the bag. A window made of rectangular mica or celluloid provides visibility.

1861
The Texas Order of the Sons of Hermann is founded in San Antonio.

1921
Alexander Joske , President of Joske Brothers Co., has acquired from the Mercantile Building Co. for a cash consideration of $120,000, a lot fronting 45 feet on Commerce, 318 feet on N. Presa and 45 feet on Crockett streets.

1976
Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 36 reached agreement with Pearl Brewery on a new three-year contract and went back to work today, ending their 24-day strike.
