February 13 in San Antonio history…

1915 – World War I
Heavy fighting is in progress once more in the Argonne and the Vosges, which have now become the most bitterly contested sections of the Western Front.  Otherwise the opposing armies in that war theater are virtually at a standstill.

Bing Crosby and Bob Hope came to town, not on the road, but by train today to boost the Red Cross War Relief Fund. Both were getting a little shut-eye before playing in the first 18 holes of the Texas Open.

Many performers – veritable “Who’s Who” of Country Music – have entertained at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo on this date:  Sonny James, Roy Clark, Johnny Rodriguez, Rex Allen, Mel Tillis, Barbara Mandrell, Charley Pride, Loretta Lynn, Steve Wariner, Clint Black, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley and the Beach Boys, just to name a few!
