February 9 in San Antonio history…

A new “vacuum-type” coffee bag is introduced in San Antonio by the makers of Admiration coffee. It is said to serve the same function as a vacuum can without the expense of a tin container. The Duncan Coffee Company is inviting people to test Admiration against any other coffee, with a money-back guarantee if they don’t agree Admiration tastes fresher.

The Beatles make their American television debut on the Ed Sullivan Show, broadcast on KENS Channel 5 at 7:00 p.m.   45.3% of U.S. TV households tuned in, representing 73 million people — a record for an entertainment program up to that time.

Twin brothers, Keith and Kerry Cash from Holmes High School, sign with the University of Texas.  Standout Holmes quarterback, Wilbur Odom, who was also expected to sign with the Longhorns, decides to attend the University of Michigan instead.
