1884
A 1,000-lb. kettle at Tobin’s chili factory exploded and blew a hole through the ceiling.  There were no injuries.

1921
Passage of an ordinance which would enable the city to prosecute in police court individuals having marijuana in their possession is sought by Assistant City Attorney Herbert Oliver.

1944
San Antonio Jaycess pronounced the corner of E. Houston and Jefferson as the city’s worst jaywalking site after counting 964 persons crossing against red lights there in a 1-hour period.

1955
The first Negro students registered in the San Antonio Independent School District’s previously all-white schools with absolutely no racial flareups.
