February 21 in San Antonio history…

1860
Colonel Robert E. Lee, Lieutenant Colonel of 2nd Cavalry Regiment arrives at San Antonio to take charge of the Department of Texas.

1930
Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company formally opened their new San Antonio office and warehouse at 143-45 South Flores Street.  Goodyear has been connected with San Antonio for 20 years, when a branch office was first established here. Carload shipments will come direct to the warehouse, thus giving this community better service through larger stocks of passenger car, bus and truck tires, belting, hose, packing and accessories. Thousands attended the opening Friday and were shown through the plant. Goodyear held open house from 2 p. m. to midnight, serving refreshments and giving favors to all who attended.

1969
A railroad engineer slammed on the brakes of his 100-car freight train today, derailing two of the cars — to save the life of  Melicio Cruz, a 98-year-old San Antonio man.  Patrolman James Engel, said it appeared Cruz, who had wandered away from his family that afternoon, was making his way across the tracks on Lombrano, when he grew weak and could not go on.
