Luby’s Cafeterias is founded at 517 N. Presa.
1968
The new Central Library building opens at S. St. Mary’s and West Market streets.
1986
Americans everywhere, including thousands of schoolchildren, watch in stunned silence as the Space Shuttle Challenger explodes one minute after liftoff. Christa McAuliffe, the first teacher in space, is killed along with the shuttle crew.
1993
The Light goes out. After 112 years, the San Antonio Light newspaper ceases publication.
