A Mexican sniper kills Ben Milam in the courtyard of the Verimendi Palace. Two others die in the assault.
1950
James C. Brady, owner of Brady Appliances, 1123 Main Avenue, announced the formal opening of the store’s new “Televsion Theater” in the 45,000 square foot building formerly occupied by Gene Meador Packard. More than 100 sets on display and seven of the nation’s leading brand names give its customers the largest selection of television in the city, Brady declared.
1978
Former California Governor Ronald Reagan is the speaker at a benefit dinner for St. Mary’s University. The dinner, held at 7:30 at La Mansion del Norte, raises money for the Myra Stafford Pryor Chair for Free Enterprise at the university. Tickets to the dinner cost $25.
