Street Commissioner Phil Wright announced the new signal lights at Goliad and Water, and Blanco and Woodlawn, would be the popular red-green type used downtown.

Ground is broken on the Alamodome, located on the former Alamo Iron Works site and adjacent property, on the east side of Interstate 37 and across from the HemisFair Park area.

The Big 12 Championship game in 1998 was played in St. Louis, not the Alamodome.
