August 13 in San Antonio history…
1957
Another bomb scare was attempted today by a youth estimated to be no older than 13. The boy called police and told them there was a bomb at the northside “Spears” store, apparently meaning the Sears Roebuck store at Romana Plaza. Police found no bomb. [The "Spears" store is now the San Antonio Central Library.]
1959
Mayor Kuykendall drove off behind the wheel of a spanking new Cadillac today, the first city-owned chariot since Maury Maverick was in office. A limousine for the mayor was discontinued during World War II.
1960
The Dallas Cowboys play their first game in the state of Texas in San Antonio – an exhibition game in Alamo Stadium against the newly relocated (from Chicago) St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals, featuring Texas Aggies John David Crow & Bobby Joe Conrad, win, 20-13.
