Alex Sartor, jeweler on W. Commerce, bears the unique distinction of being the oldest jeweler in Texas, having established himself in San Antonio in 1845.
1913
Ambrose Bierce, American author, is visiting San Antonio before starting a trip through Mexico. Bierce said he may make the Mexico tour by horseback.
1959
For the first time in history a world premiere for a grand opera was held in San Antonio. Dr. Carl Venth’s 2-act opera, “La Vida de la Mision,” was presented at Municipal Auditorium by the Symphony Society.
